He said, “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels” (Luke 9:26). We, who are Christians, are not ashamed of Jesus’ words. Despite what the world thinks of us, we will confess Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 10:32-33).
We, the Church of Christ, are not ashamed that Jesus affirmed marriage to be between one man and one woman. We are not ashamed that Jesus showed that God instituted marriage on the 6th day of the 6 days of Creation. We will not bend or fold to those who are offended by Christ. Jesus confirmed the Creation when He quoted scripture from Genesis for authority,
“But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate” (Mark 10:6-9, cf. Gen. 1:27, 2:23).
Anyone who neglects these words of Jesus denies Jesus Christ. Marriage is an institution made by God and defined by Christ. Anyone, who claims to follow Jesus and yet disregards the verbatim and literal 6 days of Creation in Genesis and Exodus, disregards the words of Jesus Christ.
The person, who is ashamed of Jesus Christ and His words, will overlook a sexual behavior contrary to marriage instituted by Jesus Christ. All sexual behavior outside of this marriage is sexual immorality and is contrary to marriage. Marriage is a blessing that shelters us from the abuses of evil, which include sexual perversions, poverty, and the moral corruption of children. When someone disregards sex outside of marriage, grants divorce for any reason other than sexual immorality and, or permits any other perversion than one man and one woman, that person denies Jesus and denies the God, who is love. These are evil things according to Christ. Jesus said,
“What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man” (Mark 7:20-23).
Don’t be confused or deceived. People, who deny Jesus, are defiled by evil. Their hearts are dark and corruption is within.
When was the last time that you confessed Jesus Christ before others? I must confess that I am not ashamed of Jesus and His words. I believe them without an ounce of doubt. There is not one teaching of Jesus Christ that I will disregard. My conviction is that no one can neglect Jesus’ words and still think of confessing Him. No matter the setting and no matter the place, Christians will not avoid speaking of Jesus to not offend others. Jesus said,
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Matt. 5:10-12).
Anyone who claims to know God and denies him is a liar and an anti-Christ. By the Spirit of Christ, the Apostle John stated, “He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son” (1 John 5:10). John also said, “Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son” (1 John 2:22). Liars will say that they know Jesus, but “He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:4).
Are you ashamed of Jesus Christ and His words? Will you confess Him before others? Will our love match our convictions? Will you confess the Jesus, who stands for marriage between one man and one woman? Will you proclaim Jesus and His Creation? Will you be shamed of His definition of evil and afraid to offend? Will you boldly post these words before everyone? Jesus said,
“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad” (Matt. 12:30).
“Atheist Blogger Leah Libresco Converted to Theism by Morality“
As someone “defiled by evil”, I think the words you quote reveal the rot at the heart of christianity: inequality, immorality, misogyny, and bigotry in the name of your god. Your heart knows better, but you stop listening to it and swallow divine command theory whole to become one of those good people willing to do evil things, and the first one is call anyone who points this fact out to you “defiled by evil.” You’ve strung your moral code up by this religious Gordian noose and now become the very thing you hate.
What do you mean by “Your heart knows better”?
It’s a rhetorical device to quickly and simply explain our shared (human) moral grammar that can be shown to supersede all other artificial and imposed divisions like culture, language, religion, ethnicity, race, geography, gender, and age. The root – like language acquisition – resides wholly in our biology; damage the biology, damage the moral function. But we can override certain biological functioning by directed effort (think of learning a different language).
Childhood studies reveals a very stable species wide response to various behaviours; this is what I mean by following our hearts. Children tend to be very consistent about the importance of fairness and reciprocity (that we submerge later in life for various reasons) and consistently act very strongly against the breaking of these unwritten rules. Religion is one of the tools that reinforces breaking these simple and fair rules. Children, for example, do not differentiate abilities of others based on gender (they simply follow their hearts and deal with the behaviour of others squarely). We have to learn how to discriminate on this basis. Children do not differentiate on the basis of race, for example (they simply follow their hearts and deal with the behaviour of others squarely). We have to learn how to discriminate on this basis. And so on.
This is what I think christianity does: it teaches us to discriminate against others and cause divisions in the name of these Iron age words. It is only the shifting moral zeitgeist, for example, that has shifted us away from excusing slavery as divinely allowable. It will take another shift to move away from legally discriminating against same sex couples on the same basis.
“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.'” Yet, the advocates of homosexuality and other evil promote the dismemberment and the shredding of millions of human fetuses, who have their own genetic code, heartbeat, and brainwaves. They are not concerned about equal rights, which makes no sense to take millions are marriages and legally redefine them against one’s convictions. They want to tear down and replace what they hate, which is God, justice, love, and Jesus Christ. How is it moral to identify people including adolescents and children by their sexual behavior? These perfectly fulfilled the scripture of Romans 1:18-32. Add to this their confusion of whether “minor-attracted” pederasts are pedophiles or victims of unequal rights.
Your prejudice is blinding you. You are ignorant of what the Bible says about slavery. Enslaving is condemned (1 Tim. 1:10). Managers were given fair and just wages and benefits (Col. 4:1, Phile.). Christian bond-servants were to pursue freedom if that was best for them (1 Cor. 7:20-24). In the OT, people were only made bond-servants for 2 reasons. War criminals were permanent. Criminals and debtors were made bond-servants. Israelites were served for 7 years to their benefit. No true follower of Christ can support enslavement, and yet it was in the name of Christ that enslaving was toppled twice.
Any bond-servant leaving one’s manager was not to be returned (Deut. 23:15-16). No one was ever consider property, and they did legally represent their debt. Your position would either release our prisoners, or never force them work. The US 13th Amendment, “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” What is So Wrong with Biblical Slavery?
The point is that you really don’t know what you oppose, the Bible. You don’t have standard for morality. Do you have the honesty to reconsider? I have, and all doubt is gone.
You agree with the Bible that all nations have a partial understanding of moral law embedded in them?
“for when nations, who do not have the law [of Moses], by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them)” (Rom. 2:14-15).
Yet, this is a partial light and corrupted in time not by Jesus Christ, but by ego, lust, and greed.
The main thing is that we don’t turn his words into a checklist of do’s and don’ts. His words are full of insight on the nature of the flesh and the Spirit. It’s easy to overlook this aspect of Christ’s words and just focus on how we should conduct ourselves by using His words as a just another set of laws.
